Meditation: Living Water, Living Witness

Texts: Exodus 17:1–7 and John 4:5–42

Settle

Find a comfortable posture.

Let your hands rest open.

Take a slow breath in…

and a slow breath out.

Again… in… and out…

Name the Thirst

Gently ask yourself:

What am I thirsty for right now?

Reassurance? Control? Rest? Belonging? Hope?

No judgment. Just noticing.

The Scarcity Reflex

In Exodus, the people thirst and quickly ask:

“Is God among us or not?”

When I feel dry or afraid, do I slip into:

demanding proof… blaming… withdrawing?

Simply notice.

Receive Living Water

In John, Jesus meets a woman at a well and offers living water—

not a one-time drink, but a spring within.

Pray with your breath for one minute:

Inhale: Living water

Exhale: Flow through me

Living Witness

The woman doesn’t leave with a perfect argument.

She leaves with an invitation:  “Come and see.”

Ask yourself:

What would it look like this week for living water to become living witness?

One small act of presence.

One word of kindness.

One step toward repair.

One honest conversation.

One boundary-crossing compassion.

Choose one.

Closing Prayer

God of the wilderness and the well,

when I am thirsty, meet me with grace.

When I am afraid, free me from scarcity and blame.

Let your living water become a spring within me,

and let that spring become a blessing beyond me—

for the life of the world.

Amen.
