Meditation: Come and See—Abiding in the Ordinary

Texts:  Isaiah 49:1-7 and John 1:29-42

Begin by settling.

Take a few deep breaths. Notice the space around you and the way your body feels right now. Let go of any expectation, simply arriving in this present moment.

Recall the invitation.

Imagine yourself among those first seekers in John’s Gospel, hearing Jesus ask, “What are you looking for?” Picture your own longings, doubts, or hopes coming to the surface.

Listen for the response.

Hear Jesus say, “Come and see.”

This is more than an invitation to observe; it’s a call to step in, to experience, to abide.

Reflect:

  • Where in your life do you feel like a bystander—longing for meaning or connection, but unsure how to take the next step?

  • What would it look like for you to “come and see”—to participate, even in small ways, in God’s dream for healing, love, and belonging?

  • Is there a relationship, a challenge, or a daily routine where you sense a gentle nudge to abide more deeply, to be present and open?

Receive the invitation:

God’s presence is not reserved for the spectacular or the “holy.” The Spirit abides in the ordinary, the overlooked, the small acts and honest prayers of each day.

Close with prayer:

Spirit of Life,

Open my heart to your invitation.

Help me move from simply watching to truly participating—abiding with you and with others,

In love, courage, and hope.

May I find you not just in special moments, but in every ordinary step I take today.

Amen.
